Pointe du Hoc
Pointe du Hoc, between Omaha and Utah beaches was the site of a fierce engagement where the US Army Rangers scaled a cliff under direct fire to take out a German coastal battery. 135 of the 225 Rangers were casualties (President Reagan's speech: "the boys of Pointe du Hoc"). The observation post is in good shape and the bomb and shell craters are there as well. When you look down that cliff you ask yourself: how did they do that?
