One of the wonderful activities of the Nerja American International Club is the twice - monthly organized walks in the hills around the area.  Led by Bob the untiring Scotsman, every other Wednesday a group goes on an adventure into the high hills (Campo).  This week I joined the group of 10 in-shape seniors on a 10 km walk that started in the village of Canillas de Albaida, about a 30 minute drive from Nerja. 

After a winding 16 km car ride up the hills above Torox and through the isolated village of Competa, we met up at our starting point in the village square to start our trek up and down and around the surrounding hills.  Our three and a half hour walk took us over seven stream crossings, up narrow footpaths, on some flatter dirt roads and down a long switchback trail.  The scenery was beautiful as we walked among lemon and orange trees an across several valleys.  Take a look at the photos to get an idea of the views. 

As any good outing in the country should end, we came through the other side of Canillas de Albaida to a restaurant and bar to enjoy a late lunch and a few beverages while we reflected on such a great outing.
